Arbutin

ArbutinThe primary source for Alpha-Arbutin is a small evergreen shrub called Bearberry, which is derived from the leaves of this shrub, or in other words, a molecule extracted from the bearberry plant that prevents the formation of melanin. It compares arbutin to two other gentle bleaches: kojic acid (derived from mushrooms) and licorice root (derived from the licorice plant). They function as tyrosinase inhibitors to provide skin lightening and pigment reduction. They are considered safe alternatives to commonly used reducing agents.

Functions and benefits of beta, alpha arbutin:

  1. Will lighten and dissipate chloasma, melanin, acne, etc.;
  2. It can promote the elasticity of the skin, preserving its moisture and delaying the aging of the skin;
  3. Limits the activity of tyrosinase; preventing the formation of melanin.

Glycolic acid and lactic acid are natural organic acids, also known as alpha hydroxy acid or ANA. In cosmetics and personal care products, they are used in the formulation of moisturizers, cleaning products.

These chemical exfoliants have the ability to work by removing accumulated dead skin cells on the surface to reveal a brighter, smoother complexion (these are alpha-hydroxy acids – AHAs) as well as by penetrating pores to remove layered pollution (beta- hydroxy acids – BHA). Lactic acid is one of the most preferred products for skin repair and maintenance.

Lactic acid is derived from the fermentation of lactose, a carbohydrate isolated in milk by the Swedish scientist Carl Wilhelm Scheele. Like glycolic and mandelic acids, lactic acid belongs to the family of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which are water-soluble organic compounds that offer unparalleled skin benefits. However, lactic acid provides an additional benefit that other AHAs don’t – in addition to its ability to significantly improve the appearance of the skin, it helps keep it naturally hydrated.

It increases cell turnover and helps eliminate accumulated dead skin cells on the epidermis. Significant improvements were noted when using a 12% concentration of the acid. The skin becomes tighter and thicker, which reflects on the overall appearance – smoother texture and fewer fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to these properties, lactic acid:

Helps reduce pigmentation and acne scars

AHAs are some of the most effective acids that can be used to reduce pigmentation and acne scars. By breaking down dead surface cells, lactic acid promotes cell regeneration in the top layer, which over time helps reduce sun damage, pigmentation and acne scars.

Improves overall skin texture

Due to its larger molecule size, lactic acid only treats the top layer of the skin, while also helping to increase natural moisturizing factors. This means that the outer shell will not only be fresh and clean of impurities, but will never feel unprotected and irritated.

It has antimicrobial properties

Some research shows that lactic acid and probiotic supplements can help with sensitive skin. When combined to correct certain inflammatory responses, both components can improve the skin’s microbial balance. While probiotics promote deeper regulation by balancing the gut, lactic acid works alongside them as a treatment for moderate skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and acne.

It is combined with hyaluronic acid

Although lactic acid has moisturizing properties compared to other acids, it still needs a little help to ensure these qualities. Since it’s primarily an exfoliant, it’s important to boost your moisturizing level after applying it. The addition of hyaluronic acid allows moisture levels to be preserved, which in turn reduces any chance of inflammation or irritation.

The ingredient contained in licorice root that helps to whiten the skin is called glabridin. Glabridin is an active ingredient containing five flavonoids that act on depigmentation or lightening while blocking the enzyme that causes damaged skin to darken.

It inhibits the production of an enzyme needed to produce melanin (pigment) in the skin, helps remove excess melanin, and has anti-inflammatory benefits.

It can be used by anyone who wants to reap the benefits of spot fading, evening out skin tone, and those who want to soothe irritated skin. Also, it is a good option for pregnant women looking for a safe way to treat melasma, unlike hydroquinone, which cannot be used by pregnant women.
